I have a thumping sound from the front end or maybe transfer case, but dealer claims it the tires.
Have had them balanced, rotated, taken off rims and put back on.
Road Force balanced, they claim they are cupped, etc.
I have raised the vehicle and tested at 25 to 50 mph and can hear nothing, but I don't think this is a good test because the hubs or bearings have no pressure or angle changes that a road test does.
Anybody have a similar issue, either Explorer or Mountaineer?
Thanks,
Brad
I had a '91 exp that did that, also. 2 things the radial arm bushings or cupped tires or both. I found that I had to rotate tires every 5k miles to prevent cupping. The '99 may not have the bushing problem that the earlier models had.
Found most of my thump, replaced the front drive shaft. The rear joint they use is trash, and they had a service bulletin out for the 5.0 Explorers, although mine is a 4.0, they still used the same joint.
I have the same thumping sound 99 mountaineer awd drivers side making the thumping sound around 15-40 mph real agrivating! I dont know what else to replace since i replaced the ball joints, stabalizer bar bushings, front brake pads and rotors so im stunned to what else could it be, gets louder as the truck gets warmer.
