Hello. I have a 97 f53 with 50K miles (same as F-Super Dutty) with the infamous e4od tranny in it. Yesterday I checked the oil in it, and I notice some particles at the end of the stick. Above and beyond that, it works OK, temp never gets higher than 170, it shifts propperly. I changed the fluid and filter 6K miles ago. Are they suppoused to be there, or should I just start saving money for a rebuild? Any help would be appreciated. Tx.
That doesn't sound good. Are you SURE they are particles and not just air bubbles?
How big are the particles? How many? Can you feel them with your finger? Please tell me they aren't metallic color.
What did you see when you changed the fluid earlier? What was at the bottom of the tranny pan and or your drain tub?
If you actually have particles they might be clutch flakes which a small amount in the pan is normal. If they are metallic that is not so good since that would mean some hard part is starting to fail. I have never seen particles on any of my personal vehicles dipsticks so I am assuming this is not normal. I have seen bubbles from time to time and usually it is not a cause for concern.
Your year E4OD is supposed to have all the upgrades and new spec parts that prevernt earlier issues with the tranny.
1) They are really small, but you can fill them with your finger.
2) They are bownish color.
3) They don't seem to be metalic, because they didn't react to a magnet (and I think that this tranny doesn't have aluminum plates)
