fuel shutoff valve

My 42 1 ton gas tank has a brass fuel shutoff falve attached to the fuel tank. It's the same valve I had on a 31 model A. Does anyone know if this was standard or was it added later in the truck's life for some reason?

Stock. The style may have varied, but my '48 has the same shutoff. So did the '49 parts truck I got my current fuel tank from.

Thanks for the info Tim. I have it soaking overnight and it should free-up tomorrow. I priced one on the net for $35 so I think I will make this one work.

Well, got it freed up and was working fine. Cleaned up good too. While tightening lock nut on the valve handle the %#*& snapped off. Well time to drill and tap for a brass screw, that will work just fine I'M sure.
