Battery Problems

I'm not having a good morning...

I was running late to work as usual, and I stopped to get some coffee because there's no way I am going to function without any coffee. I go to pull out, and right as I get my nose out into the intersection *BAM* everythings dead, no engine, no lights, nothing electrical works. I get out while everyone's going around me I open the hood and check to see what in the hell is going on. The battery posts are fine, I wiggle them a little bit, close the hood and as I'm walking to try and get reception on my cell phone, everything just magically comes on. So I jump in my truck and drive to work.

When I arrive, I recheck everything, Battery Posts are fine, and I have no clue in what happened. The current is reading perfect, no lights were dimming, all at once everything went dead, and I've driven about 30 minutes more and I've had no problems. Could this be the battery battery going dead? The only thing that's different about today is so far it's been the coldest day of the year (around 22 degrees this morning).

Pull the connections off #1, #2, #3, and #4 and scrape them. Check for any melting. Point #3 is very important. This is where the voltage to run the truck's electrical system is hooked. You should see some smaller wires hooked there.

Thanks for the diagram -

I checked them out, scraped them. There was no apparent melting, so I'm clueless.

Are the cables to the battery have custom ends on them ?
If so, sometimes they *break down* by corrosion just under the insulation. Usually you can see some corrosion & sometimes not.

Make sure the battery terminals are clean, not just look ok, I've lost track of the times that a service call was generated bacause of corroded terminals and the client swore that he had just checked them and they were OK. I have to charge them anyway but it is an uncomfortable moment at times.

Thanks for the input, I wouldnt of thought to look at that. I'll check that out soon, it's really the least of my problems now though.
