Tonneau - snap or snapless?

I'm looking at vinyl tonneau covers for my Ranger. I've heard criticisms of the metal snaps in that they can be difficult in cold weather. I worry that the snapless (appear to push down into a groove) will break easy or maybe less secure. Does anyone have any feedback/comments on these two types? Thanks.

Welcome to FTE Rob!

Just out of curiousity, is there a specific reason you want a vinyl top? I personally would suggest something like the Leer fiberglass tops. You can get some (like the Leer) that do not have any snaps or hinges that have to be mounted. They are held under the bottom with a certain type of clamp. My father is getting ready to get one from Leer. He will be able to access it with a lock at the rear, and the door has hydraulic lifters to hold it up when accessing it. Also, it can be totally removed in about 5-10 minutes...

As far as the snap-ons go - I have heard some of the snaps will become rusted and become hard to deal with. Also, the material fades and tears after time - (mother nature will beat anything).

The groove slot covers I have heard about are known for coming loose over time of them being put in - taken out - over and over again.

I personally do not have any experience with either one, this is only what I have read about them from people who have had them....

I like the EXTANG product and have tried both styles. The
"living hinge" type is very hard to get on in the winter and eventually stretches or cracks. The snaps are better so far.

I have had a extang with snaps on my GMC for 10 years. There is a winter summer setting on the snaps however I still have had trouble in the winter getting the cover back on even on the winter snap setting. Other than that the cover has held up great and still looks like new.
