95 e4od into 90 f150

The original e4od in my 1990 f150 just broke, and I was able to find a low mileage (41K) e4od out of a 1995 f150 and I was wondering what all is required to swap in the newer style. I can get the tranny for $550 with a 3 month guarantee. I can get the ECU out of the same truck for $50, it's the same drivetrain as mine 302/e4od/4wd. So, does anybody know if this would work, or is there a lot more involved than I think.

Your 1990 electrical system is completely different, the computer won't work. The difference between the 1990 and 1995 E4OD is that there were diodes in the ECU on the pre-'95 ones and then they were moved to the solenoid pack in 1995, or maybe the other way around, can't remember. You can search on it, someone soldered in the diodes just fine. The other thing is that the 1995 was the first good year for E4OD, there were some updates that made them a lot tougher.
