I was asked about the Gen to alt conversion and here is the link. A bit pricey but could be the ticket for those wanting to stay OEM looking.

yea just a bit pricey.did i read that right?thanks for the info though.i really dont have that kind of budget to play with.im begining to find that some of these older hard to find parts can get to be expensive.thanks for the link.

I'm nowheres near doing this but I am going to try and develope my own version of a generator cased alt. It is a ways down the road but If I succeed I'll be sure to post it for everyone.

I built a new generator for around $75. I bought every thing new The only thing that was used was the case and the pully. I bought the a new arm feald coiles and end plates with brushes from dennis carpender and electric motor bearings from mc master carr. It has no problems with charging or with running headlights heater wipers amfm radio. I seem to get about 7 to 8 years out of batterys as well.

$75 dollars seems very reasonable.If something should happen to the one that is on it,i wouldn't have to have on right off. I'm not planning on useing as a daily driver so i would have time to order replacements parts,and i now know where they are available.your information has been very helpful.thank you
