I've noted that during the summer months, when i start and let the engine idle for 10-15 minutes, my 98 expedition has water spots (not puddles) on the ground. I got under the truck to investigate and found that one of the water spots directly under the back of the muffler. On a closer look, I saw a hole on the bottom of the back side (but above the "lip") of the muffler.
There is no tell tale sign of corrosion on the muffler and the hole actually looks like it was meant to be put there.
I have my own ideas on this... i think that this is just condensation... but wanted to check with some "seasoned gurus" and make sure that I am correct before I blow this off as a non issue.
This is a drain hole in the muffler to allow condensation to escape. It will eventually get bigger and begin to rust out. I ripped mine off and replaced with a Flowmaster custom exhaust system. No more holes and the sound is great!
