washed my truck today not to bad for a rattle can paint job and bed lined bumper and grille but noticed a odd sound coming from under the truck while moving it today. my father in law who i got the truck from told me the muffler had holes in it and did not think much into considering the truck is 15 years old and there is atleast one hole in the muffler to let out the condensation but today it sounded different and i noticed after taking off the lower shield that the muffler is split in the seam.
what should i do i am looking at a couple of different options.
1.buy a new muffler and put it on
2.take it to a shop and have them replace the muffler and pipe from the muffler all the way back
3.just cut it off and rig up some kind of turn down and be down with it
i myslef am leaning towards number 2. but what kind of muffler do i get? i do not want duals just a stock exit like it is now. im not looking to **** off my neighbors when i leave at 430 in the morning for work. what do yall have for your setups?
as you can see from the pics the lower shield looks like the hole has been there a while and the entire seam is busted but where my screw driver is is the biggest hole i found
I've read good things about the Jones 3030XL mufflers on this site & they're stainless - around $70.00 though then take it to a muffler shop to have it installed. The XL stands for Xtra Long not extra loud like I first thought The XL's are 24" over all and the 3030's are 14" overall if I remember correctly.
take it to a shop. you are not going to be able to get the rusty bolts off....the shop will cut off you old exhaust and weld back on what ever pipes you need.
