Distribution block fuses help needed

i currently am running 4 ga back through a 60amp fuse at the battery, and currently have a 40 amp fuse in my disturbtion block, which runs 8 ga to my amp (700x rockford) i have before just ran a single 8 ga power and ground to the amp, with no problems, but decided to run another to see if it makes a diff in performance, i have a 40 amp fuse in the distribution block, and the book on the amp says nothign about distribution block ratings for amps, so i was wondering if theres a "set" limit or minimum or what, and is lower or better higher for something in this setup..i also have a 1 farad cap setup in line before the fuse if that matters

thanks in advance, Joseph

Most distribution blocks are large metal blocks, so they should be more than adequate to carry 40 amp load.

how big is the fuse in your amp?you shouldn't need a larger fuse than that, unless you run multiple amps off the circuit

well, I went to the RF website, and downloaded your owners manual, took awhile- I'm on dail-up. if you haven't read the manual, you should, it has more info than most I have seen.
anyhow your owners manual specifies a 60 AMP fuse, so thats what I'd use at the battery, and in the dist. block circuit to the 700x.if you have other amps running off the dist. block, the battery fuse needs to be bigger.
are you running multiple amps? if not why are you using a dist. block, is it just a fuse holder for now till you upgrade, or am I missing something?

Lightbulb

distrubution block..for upgrades..and for the fact that i ran 4 ga from the battery, and the amp only takes 8 ga in, so i ran the 4 into the distribution block...and ran an 8 power out..and there are 2 power openings on the amp if i want to use, which i want to try and see if it'll make any diff, and..i DO have a 60 amp at the battery, im asking if theres any opinions what i should go with on the block..i got a 40 in there now, but i was wondering if i could go with 2 50's and be just as safe, or not...thanks

I think drunkenmonk gave you all the answers you need, the owners manual calls for a 60 AMP fuse, I would not exceed their recommendation, you would be asking for trouble to use a larger fuse than that. You really should read the owners manual, it will tell you alot of good information!

haha, yea i know what it says in the manual....and ido have a 60 amp at the battery, im asking, is there any RECOMENDATIONS, for THE DISTRUBITION BLOCK fuse, it has to be less than 60, but..will 50s work, or should i stick with 40s...will it affect performance?

haha?? Just trying to give suggestions...Your post is diffucult to understand what your question is, and you dont have to YELL! The power requirements of your amp or fuse size would need to remain the same (60) the complete run to the power source. If you are going to use two power wires into the amp, the same still remains true, 60 AMPS (30+30) Anything less could possibly supply less current than the amps potential, and possibly cause the smaller fuse to blow, anything larger, if there is no fuse after, then its a possible fried amp. Why cant you put in the recommended size fuse?? If the dist block is not the type that you can put this size fuse into, I would either go back to your single wire/ fuse combo all the way to power source or buy dist block that will serve your needs.

Its just simple math.
RF says the amp may draw UP TO 60 AMPS.
if you put a smaller fuse in the circuit, it will probably work untill the amp is driven hard, then the smaller fuse will blow.the entire circuit path must be capable of supplying 60 AMPS. put a fuse smaller than 60 AMPS anywhere in the line, and the circuit CAN NOT supply 60 AMPS.you could use two 30s in the dist. block, and paralell them after the fuse, but this is mickey mouse. if this dist block will not accept a 60, it isn't truly compatable with this amp.
sorry its frustrating, but I can't change physics either.

Either one sounded fine to me. Unless you are doing an SPL burp or playing test tones, it won't pull high current for long.

put a 40 in if it blows then put a 50 in if it blows then put a 60 in its as simple as that. you only need a fuse big enough to handle the amps draw without blowing you could put a 200 amp circut breaker in there and it wouldnt hurt anything
