PCV..are you kidding me??

OK, 89 Bronco, 351 fuel injected. It looks like I have to remove the top of the intake to change the PCV valve?? Great job there Ford. I bet it's never been done. Seeing as this is probably what I have to do, is there anything else I should do while I have it apart?

Hi Stomper, I don't know if they changed the location in 2 years but my previous Bronco was an 87 and you can change the PCV valve by climbing into the engine compartment and reaching behind the plenum and pulling the valve out. It is located at the back of the lower intake manifold. Hope this helps.

Bulldog is right. No need to remove the top of the engine. I hope you have small hands brother. Its a tight fit. Also, be sure not to drop the hose that connects the PCV Valve into the Intake. I did it, and it took me four hours to grab it and reattach it. Thats made the total time of my tune up, 4 hours and 45 minutes. LOL.

Have you looked into relocating the vacuum connection for the PVC? I read on this site how it causes #8 cylinder to lean out because thats where the connection is for the PCV. I moved mine to the top of the intake manifold when I changed my PCV.

RTM is right about the 8th cylinder problem, I just rebuilt an engine cause the 8th cylinder rings were broken as a result of this problem. Check out this thread for more info. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...threadid=15232

Ahh very interesting idea guys. Funny, in that link it mentions the filter getting gunked, cause mine does all the time. I got my PCV in fine, but I think I'm going to do this mod anyhow, seems to make sense to me. Also I read about it clearing idle problems, and my 351 shakes a bit at idle, more than I think it should. Real smooth off idle though.
Trucky, from what I gather, your truck should be all set to go already. Take a look at the hose coming off the PCV valve. Does it lead to the back of the manifold or to the top center of the manifold? Mine goes to the rear above #8 cylinder. Yours should higher up somewhere.

Thanks for the tip RTM and siphor84

I'm glad this post came up, I think I would like to do this mod too, But I have a quick question on another front. somone along the line on my bronco decided to put an elbow(I hope its an elbow and not an old PCV valve.) where the PCV valve goes with a 3 or 4 in hose and then have the PCV valve out in the open then into the vacuum port. Is that ok or should I try to get it back to normal.

My PCV valve is set up just like you describe. Its easier to get to when you need to change it.

Can you post any pictures or drawing of this setup. On my '94, I have the same problem accessing it. Mine needs to be changed out, but I remember the problem before. Appreciate any pics of drawings.

Getting a pic will be hard since there is no room to get in there. I will be going to the junk yard today and I will look at the trucks there to see if they have the same set up as mine. If they do I will remove them and take pictures. They are core motors sitting in the trucks still.
