Radiator Leaks..

Here is the deal I just got a 87' F-150 and the radiator is leaking at a pretty quick rate. I just found where the leak is. It is on the top right corner (if you are standing from the front of the truck)
Its leaking around the seams there.
Anyone else have these problems before?
Is it common?
There is no huge hole.. i guess a weld or something split.. not sure.
Can it be fixed or is the radiator going to have to be replaced?

Thanks
-Bryan

P.S
While I'm typing,
Can the headlight lens be taken off to be cleaned or is it a sealed beam and not be taken apart?

I would just replace it. The tank seals can be replaced farely cheap but a new radiator is only $99.

Whew...
I thought they would be more than that. Moms was alot more on her GMC.
I guess while I am at it I should replace it and all the hoses as well. Just to make sure I don't have any other problems with that.
Thanks for your help.

Replace it. Fix one leak and another springs up. Save yourself some aggravation and just put a new one in. Had a similar situation on my '94 Bronco. Just replaced the entire radiator and have never regretted it. You will have other things occur and at least you have eliminated this problem.

She is think the radiator leak stuff that is only a few bucks is sounding better. Oh well. Save the money for something else I guess.

But does anyone else know about the headlight situation?

I don't know about 99 dollars, Dealer price was $283 for a 92 F150 radiator, and 180 to 220 dollars from some local parts places.
Why are the seams breaking is the question. could be old age, wear and tear, but it is best to have the entire system looked at. You will need a new radiator cap, and should have the cooling system flushed. cap=6bucks, plus flush and fill=60bucks. If your'e changing the radiator check the old hoses, the upper and lower hoses might cost another 30 or 40 bucks.
I would let one of your local pros see the radiator it may be repairable, but I think the side tanks are hard to fix. It may be wiser to let a qualified engine cooling specialist do the repair.

This is the most important system in the engine compartment. Without coolant, the engine will die in about 10 minutes on a hot summer day. It is also the system that can make your engine last for 400,000 miles if you maintain the coolant every year. Good Luck

Radiator leak sealer stuff that you put in your cooling system is a big no no.

It would just clog up your radiator and your cooling system components.

Just replace your radiator. Remember, that you must flush the cooling system every two years. To minimize corrosion and gunk build up. Use a distilled water instead of tap water for your coolant mixture. The distilled water (available from local grocery stores) does not contain any chemicals and that is a best way to minimize corrosion and gunk build up.

The lenses can be cleaned. I forget what is needed to clean them but someone else on here will know. Taking those covers off is a big pain in the butt, so unless they are really dirty I would leave them.

You may want to move your question about the headlamp cover over to another thread. There is one dealing with cleaning and dress-up I believe. Can't remember the exact thread name, but it is below the one on transmissions, differentials and oils. If I recall, there was some discussion on this recently. You also may want to do a search. Good luck.
