When I use my power port to charge my phone or use a spotlight I have a hard time keeping it plugged in. With my phone charger I have to wiggle and turn the plug in the power port just to get contact. Then if I hit a little bump it will move just enough that it looses power. Did anyone else have this type of problem or are the plugs junk on the end of my cords? The same thing happens in my cigarette lighter but not quite as bad.
Thanks
It's not an exact spec. that these plug mfg'rs go thru, so you are
bound to have some wobble on some of these plugs. I have not had
any issues with my cell phone chargers in the aux. port as yet, but in
past vehicles I can sure understand your frustration. What worked for
me in the past was to glue some non-conductive material to the plug
itself, being careful to avoid the wire prongs. I used little tiny strips
of balsa wood, since it was malleable and could deform to make a snug
fit.
Heck, I've even been known to wedge a toothpick in there to get that
sucker to stay put!
I have seen a sleeve type shims before for this problem. It's basically a thin sleeve with a slot for the ground part of the plug to go through.
If you think that one of these will work, you can probably find one at Radio Shack.
Well I tried bending the "springs" on my phone charger plug. I think I went a little to far because I broke them off. I'm going to get a different charger, this time i'll get a little better quality one then my $8.99 walmart special. Sunday was one of those days absolutly nothing went right, hopefully today goes a little better.
wish me luck.
I agree with 4x4x4x4 -- go to your local Radio Shack (RS) and tell
them what's up and let them get you a solution. I too have seen
those black sleeves and they seem to take up the slack in the plugs
pretty good. At least the RS folks will know what is on the market
(or, at least they should) and if it'll help you out. Sorry you
broke the prongs (I know I would have def. broken them, I have
little to zero patience for such things!! LOL )
I had a 1987 Porsche(before I was married), and the lighter was larger then my phone charger plug. I got a little plastic sleeve that did the job. I know I'm not helping when I say I don't remember where I got it.
Fixed my problem. Instead of my $8.99 walmart special I bought a $9.99 deluxe model from Boscov's and it works like a charm. When I bought my spotlight it had one of those little plastic sleeves with it but I didn't have any idea what it was for so I pitched it with the box. Guess if I would have read the instructions I wouldn't be getting ready to go to Radio Shack. Thanks again and as allways
