while i've got my engine up in the air to replace the oil pan gasket, should i spend $50 to replace the motor mounts?? it's a '93 f-150 302 4x4 with 140k miles. i really haven't noticed any prior problem with them.
i am posting to this forum because my concern is due to the age of the vehicle, rather than having a need for technical advice.
Bad mounts on mine too at 145K. Easier now than later. I wonder if anyone is making those slick neoprene ones for trucks of this vintage? Those would be cool.
I agree fully replace the mounts better be safe than sorry as cheap that they are anyway. I had to replace mine because of oil destruction in mid november.
you guys are pretty easy at spending my money!! okay, the yea's have it. i'll replace the mounts. thanks.
as to the oil pan gasket replacement, i think that it has been the most frustrating wrench job that i can remember. thanks to the forum for insight before i started. i was determined to remove the pan without taking off the intake plenum, so the y-pipe had to move rearward. have you ever cut-out the entire cat-back system with a dremel?? thank god the muffler and tail pipe were shot. i found it good enough reason to order a gibson cat-back side swept system, ya know, with it being christmas and all that! time will tell if that was a good choice. later.
Thats too funny xl1200c, about the Dremel...I had to do that once too with my Jeep when I was removing my old exhaust to put the Gibson in it. The reciprocating saw I had croaked and the only other thing at hand was a Dremel. Had expired little worn out cutting discs everywhere! Would'ent want to do that job again!
Oh yeah, like parks911 says...grab all the hi perf goodies you can too!!!
