Argument between the old man & me, hopefully you folks can "majority rules" & settle this thing. How often do you usually change out glo plugs? Any & all responses are much apreciatted.
I've just heard when you start having trouble starting but when you do chage all of them if not the old ones can somehow mesh up the new ones something to do with power consumption
My truck is in getting glo plugs right now. It would not start at 10 below celcius if it was not plugged in. I am curious to see the old glo plugs to compare them to a new one. I have also heard you should change all at once. I am also changing the glo plug relay just to be safe and have all parts new.
First thing to check before doing the glow plugs would be the relay - a much easier job to do and not an uncommon failure.
There are a few who have replaced them as a preventive measure, most just replace all eight when enough have failed to cause a starting problem. I did all eight even though three of mine tested OK when I did them.
If you are going to do the job let me know - I have a great "how to" article done by another user on another forum saved as an MS Word document along with the starting post from when I did mine a couple years ago. It applies to the 94-97 trucks but would have some information for newer ones as well.
I can eMail it to you as an attachment if you will provide me an eMail address.

As I said earlier, I just got my 97 f350 back and the mechanic told me I had 4 of the 8 glowplugs not working. That explains the no start with out plugging in in cold temps. I should be ok for a while now.

Ed, site rules do not allow posting an eMail address in the forums. If you will go to my profile and send me an eMail with your address I will reply with the file attached. I cannot send an attachment off the eMail links here so I will need one from you to me.
Please let me know what information you are after as well - I have a few bits of information and have been sending them out here and there on a couple forums.

Dave/Beliver45 I saw that you had a article on changing glow plugs. I have a 97 PSD and it looks like I need to do the same. I have the new glow plugs but the instructions I am sure would help. I can not email you due to I am a new user but could really use this info. If you could please send me the MS word to my email.
as long as were on glow plugs, I am replacing the glow plugs in a 97 powerstroke. While unscrewing the right rear plug, the plug broke. The threaded section has come out, but the actual heating element is still stuck in the head. I have tried pulling it out with pliers, but it won't budge. Any advice?
