I am tearing my engine down, call it exploratory surgery. I have taken the dist. hold down bolt off, but it won't budge, it will twist, but I can not lift it up at all. Is there a pin or anything.? I have been working around it so far, but now have everything torn off and can not go any further with it in the way. It is an 81 351W
No theres no pin or anything, Its just build up around the distributor shaft, try pulling up on it while twisting it, if you can get it up just a little, then spray some carb, engine, or brake cleaner around the base and keep working it. Good luck! DW
Thanks, maybe Santa will take it off for me a few days early. Other than that I will keep pulling until I bust my head on the hood, than I will remove it with the sawz-all.
Since you can turn it, removal should be fairly easy. Most are stuck so badly they won't even turn. DW's trick with the brake cleaner is good. It will help to break down the corrosion that's holding it. If it still won't come out, try pouring a small amount of brake fluid on it. As a last resort, muriatic acid (concrete cleaner) will also break down the corrosion.
Hawaii huh......must be nice this time of year.
It was 15 degrees here the other morning.....
Well, my wife played the role of Santa while I was at work. I just asked to spray a little bit of everything I got in there and it pulled right out.
About Hawaii, the weather starts to get old after a couple of years, something about a hot christmas and no snow to drive in makes me miss Wisconsin.
