429 in a 67-72
First off this has most likely been discussed but.......My uncle wants to put a 429 into a old ford, I believe it is a 68 f100. As these trucks never had a 429 from the factory what motor mounts and towers, and ect did you guys use when you put these motors in. I know some of you have done this. Did you have to modify anything to make it work or was it a drop and play kind of thing????
thanks in advance.

429block is the same as a 460 block Try http://www.landlproducts.com/ and maybe a search on the swap at the bottom of the forum.

The 460's were offered in the late 70's trucks. You can use the engine perches out of one of these in you uncles truck to mount the engine to or you can go to TD Perfomance or L&L for aftermarket swap mounts. He will have to have a big block transmission, They also make swap headers for the application. probably have to shorten or lengthen the driveshaft. It is a pretty easy swap. We are putting a 429 into a friends 67 shortbed right now. He ised the TD Perf. mounts and they worked great

460's were in 74 or so and up, the were the "camper special" engine choice. the mounts off of one of these should work or just make some out of some 3/4" thick steel drill the holes that match the engine countersink them a little for the heads of the bolts, sit the engine in atached to tranny, mark holes for mounting bolt on each side, drill and tap the plates for a 1/2" bolt and put it in. it works great if you cant find stock mounts and dont want to "bend over" for aftermarket prices. oh and dont forget to use a pickup truck exaust manifold on the passenger side.
