I have a 429 out of a 72 Mercury. This is right around the big changes in compression. What is the easiest way to guess fuel requirements on this complete assembly? I have the whole motor and transmission to put in a 66 PU.

Reason: clarification
What is the casting # on the block and the heads? This will allow us to check the compression ratio the engine came with, and from there figure out the fuel requirements...
The D2 heads are absolute crap. I would get rid of them ASAP. They have no quench and ping like a turkey, even worse than the D0VE heads with the same fuel. The fact that Ford only made this head for one year should tell you something. You are going to have major pinging problems even with 92 octane gas.
The D3 and later heads are nice low compression heads and can be made to flow quite well.
I have the same exact engine as u have that i am geting ready to pull out of my 72 mercury marquis demo car. I have all the specs that u need for that engine if u want them i can email them to ya. and no im not crazy even though i ran a 429 in a demo my plan is to rebuild it anyway so why not. but i think i can help
