I cannot get the spring lock at the orifice to disconnect. I have the red, white, blue, black plastic 4 tool set AND I have a metal pivoting tool. Both tools/sets offer the same sizes...3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4.
The 5/8 is too big and the 1/2 is too small! The 5/8 (black) has a lot of slope when trying to use it, and I can see where the flange is too large in circumference to engage the spring. The 1/2 is too small and will not mate up flush with the radius of the line. I have previously "forced " the 5/8 (black) to work, but I can't even get that to happen now.
Can someone tell either what I am doing wrong or what the correct size tool is, and where I can get one?
You need the Blue one. That's the one for a #8 line on the garter spring side (Evaporator side) of the connection.
Which style of tool are you using? I've found that the spring loaded "clamshell" type usually work better than others in most applications. They cost a little more, though.
