How are them Holly carbs? Iam haveing all sorts of problems with my 87 f250. Wont idle and now its surging. The motor is a reman but the carb is the original one.
Thanks
Is the engine a stock one?
These carbs are adjustable if you remove the plugs over the adjusting screws.
They are OK when they work right. I would install a 600 CFM Edelbrock if you have the funds to do so.
What engine do you have, 351 or 460.

PS it should be a 4180 series Holley I think.
Stock351. And yes it is a 4180 C my mistake. I did try a rebuilt holly
but the idle problem did not go away and i wound up with a new one. It would give off some nasty backfires when I let off the gas after hauling *** so I put the old one on to get me by. My mecanic said it must have been a bad rebuild. How common is that? and yes money is tight but i would hate to get a new carb when somthig else is the problem. Dou you know how to test the computers for the ignition?
Did you drill out the idle mixture screw plugs on the bottom front of the carb base? If you get the plugs out, you can adjust the idle mixture and it may cure your problem.
You can usually take the ignition module to AutoZone or most parts houses and they can check it for free. As far as checking the actual computer, they can scan the computer for fault codes as well, but it has to be hooked up in the truck.
