I have a 84 F-150 I6 with a carter/Motorcraft 1 barrel feedback carb. I have the TiFF IV ignition. I have most of the ford shop manuals and the ford spec book but nothing tells me the setpoints for setting up the carb. I would like to set the choke plate gap. The book shows a drill bit used for measuring the gap and says see special ford carborator spec book for dimensions. Attached to the choke plate is a vacuum diaphram that holds the choke open a little when you start the engine. The book shows How to adjust the gap, can anyone tell me what the gap is supposed to be?
1/8" is a good starting point for the gap when the pull-off is activated.
I usually adjust the initial choke setting so that when it is cold, and the throttle is opened, the choke plate copletely shuts with a slight snap, not overly tight, just enough that it is completely shut and has a little tension on it. As soon as it fires, the pull-off will open it up enough to keep it from flooding itself out.
