I am pulling the transfer case out of the truck and repairing it but I would just like to know what the repair would be before I pull it apart.
This is in a 1986 F250 but I don't believe it is the original TCase.
I just got my transmission rebuilt. Now it will jump out of 2H into neutral I have to stop turn off the motor shift to 4L and back to 2H. Some times it will stay in 4L. Looking at the manual at the library, the forks that slide the gears back and forth have a pin on the back of them that ride in slots cut in a plate that has a rod connected to it going through the case to the linkage arm. Don’t know if it’s the fork, plate or washer between plate and case yet. I am going to drop the rear drive shaft, remove yoke split case remove drive sprocket driven sprocket and chain and see what it needs.
The problem you are having is that your "RANGE" fork is worn which is exactly what happened to my NP-208. I had to do the same thing.. it would slip in to "N" from 2H and I would have to shut down etc...
I had my xfer case rebuilt.. it is perfect now... though with the $950 price tag I should have spent another $900 and gotten the Atlas II for heavens sake....
