Code P0401

I just got a CEL yesterday. I pulled the code...P0401 which is EGR low flow. The last car I did any extensive wrenching on was a '67 Camero. It seems I am about to be dragged kicking & screaming into the computer (car) age. So, can I fix this or do I have to take it to a guy who's already in the computer age? Thanks for any info you can give me.

Hi Dave, welcometo FTE!

You are currently experiencing a very common (and minor) problem associated with the Ford 3.0L Vulcan engine which involves the DPFE. The remedy in almost all cases is to simply replace the DPFE itself. It's the silverish metal thing about the size of a deck of cards attached to the upper intake with two screws. DPFEs run about $50 bucks or so at the local parts stores, and replacement is an easy do-it-yourself project. You simply unplug the electrical connector, remove the two screws and take the old one off. Installation is the reverse of removal.

If you look through the 3.0L V6 troubleshooting tips you will find more information on the DPFE, what it does and how to test it:

Good luck!

Thank you for the welcome & the info. Since I posted this morning, I've been browsing the site & found all the answers I needed. I called Ford about the DPFE warranty coverage (NO) & now I'm looking for the part. Its great to be able to go to one place & get so much information. I've learned more about this truck in one day than in the last 6 months. Thank you all for all the help.

Lightbulb DPFE sensor

Just did this repair myself a few weeks ago. FYI: many auto parts call it an EGR Pressure Sensor. Good luck
