Some places back up lights on a switch are illegal. People can flip on the switch and blind other drivers behind them at night. Just make sure you dont leave the switch on and they will never know.
yes that is a very good point. i bought an illuminated switch to put in the dash and hopefully it will bright enough to notice if it's on while driving. not sure if it is illegal around here or not. it would be tempting not to use it on those idiots that ride your butt though. my lights are the rectangular ones and will go under the bumper so shouldn't be too bad for blinding people. i'll post how it goes once i get them wired up. could be a while with this weather; no shop.
I have some spare fog lights that i was going to use as back-up lights. I was just going to wire them to the back-up light wire on the trailer harness, but now you've got me thinking about those people that tailgate or have their brights on.
I did 2 things for backup lights. I went to Pep Boys and bought 50watt backup light bulbs, and those work pretty good, go in the stock tailight housing and so far haven't blown any fuses. Had them about a year now. I also went to AutoZone and bought a pair of rectangular clear lens flood lights that look almost identical to the KC backup lights and mounted them beneath the rear bumper in an area where they will be protected by the reciever hitch. I'm pretty well covered for light behind me now.
I don't remember exactly but it wasn't all that much, maybe thirty bucks for the pair at most I would think, probably less. JC Whitney used to sell them too, don't remember if they still do. You could check thier catalog for a ballpark price or just go look at the local autoparts store. I imagine AutoZone or Kragen probably has something similar
Yeah, I already mounted some chep fog lights back there. When i went to wire them, only one would come on. So i took them back off and found the bulb was blown. (not the replaceable kind). So now i have 2 brackets back there but no lights. Oh well. Should have checked first.
I put in those bulbs but am not impressed. I may go for the kit that mounts over the hitch but am more interested in spending money on lifting the truck first.
