ok well there is still hope. u can make some fiberglass pods for the comp. sets in the doors. a good 2 way set beingpushed by a decent 2 channel amp will be more then sufficent for u and will provide crisp highs and good, strong mids. my problem w/ 6x9s is the mid-bass is often muddy sounding and sloppy. only good thing 6x9s are good for IMO are mid-range and highs but they can often be lacking. and the dash speakers, while good for looks arent the best for sound. i have seen some SQ guys mount the tweets from a comp. set in the very top the the pillrs so it'll reflect off the windshield. if i can find the site i can show u an example.
You guys are great! what the heck do most of you do, work for Crutchfield?? LOL
I think my biggist concerns are crackeling and distortion, and I would like at least a little bass.
Thanks all
Dale.
No, we know much to much to work at crutchfield. Besides, i would never work for a company that sold that much crap with a straight face. (I own a car audio forum, doesnt mean i know alot, dont have to i have 465 ppl that might at my disposal. )
Crackling and distortion. Buy a decent product, power it properly, play ALOT of attention to your install. No problem.
20% product......80% install.
When i ever need ideas for installs i go to SD and check other rides installs like mine. There are several fabricators at my forum, and install experts, so its not necessary anymore, but still SD is a great source.
Whether or not you need an upgraded charging system will depend on the wattage used....I doubt many here want anything over 400-500watts....
A stiffening capacitor usually sufficient for amps used to push stock location aftermarket replacement speakers. A stiffening cap is a must for amps that are or less than 1 ohm stable.
well, as said before a capacitor is nothing more then a quick fox or band-aid for future problems. if ur charging system is in good shape then a mere wire upgrade should provide enough and perhaps a larger battery. remember the battery serves no other purpose other than to turn over the starter in a vehicle. everything is ran off the alt. and when the alt. is being over-whelmed with draw it starts feeding off the battery. the rate of use is more then its output. adding a cap. will indeed cure the additional load placed on the battery but then when it gets discharged it just adds more resistance in the charging system.
basically u should have ur charging system checked to see if the battery and alt. are making the proper output and bumping up the wire guages to larger will help more current flow easier. also replacing terminals and wires will ensure everything is new and in working order. if needed step upto a larger battery and higher output alt. dont worry about the battery overcharging because it wont unless the output of the alt. exceedes 15-16V.
ANyhow.....use good quality rca interconnects and power wires....as well as speaker cable...
also using "high quality" RCA cables and connectors wont do much but drain ur wallet. its all a marketing scheme. i perfer the Wal-Mart variety (schoshe) or to make my own. also welders wire seems to be a popular choice for power/ground wire. just make sure its fine strand copper wire.
I am an audiophile and understand these things....
not tryin to cut u down in anyway but if u were indeed an audiophile u would understand the basic concepts better.

couldnt have said it better myself. good to see another level headed audio guru here to help.

Personally i would pass on the 6 x 9's and run 6.5coax in the doors (less cash....4 seperate tweets not necessary) and 5.25 comp in the dash (so you can mount the tweets whereever they sound good). A decent 4 channel amp and you should be rollin.
You want brands names? I need a price range. Note: there will always be a better product that costs only 50 dollars more....i just need the max to spend total.
Any system that can pass the Metallica test, is doing pretty good IMO.
Im looking to spend around $400.00.
I already have a HU so I wont need to buy that. I know its not a lot of money but Im probley gonna buy off E-Bay. (I have delt with a couple of specific electronics sellers on there and they are VERY reliable & honest.)
I want to buy the best speakers I can and use the rest of the cash for the amp & wires. The reason for this is that when I save up some more money it would be easier to replace the AMP than the speakers.
Like I have said before, you guys are amazing! I feel like a complete idiot in this subject! (well thats because I am!)
JL XR coaxials
US Acoustics 2100
Amp kit from Walmart
XR's will actually provide some outstanding midbass if installed properly. Great midrange and an even more impressive tweet. Nice "drop in" solution for awesome sound. Amp will provide all the power you'll need, and doesn't cost much.
Leftover money should be applied to sound deadening...those old Fords (and most new ones ) let a lot of road/engine noise in. Doors will rattle a lil' too with those XR's pumping full range.
BTW, with regards to one of the above posts...Class D mono amps for mids/tweets have been around for a few years. Xtant's newest one was rated very highly in one of the car audio rags recently.
thanks for mentioning the classD thing, I'll have to do some more reading.
the USAcoustics stuff has looked pretty good to me, but I have never seen it locally, not that that means anything. how is the quality, I know the waranties are good, 3 years is longer then most
Like the thread says, CDT from theZEB is THE best deal on the net for badazz speakers. I magine the 5.25s could be found on eBay. Link included because it has reviews.
