Actually, you need to replace the carrier. It's not really a DIY job unless you are familiar with differentials.

And it's NOT a "posi" that's a GM term. The correct Ford term is "Trac-Lok." Oppy is right, it's not a job to take on without some experiences help, a good shop manual and a pile of specialized tools.

Powertrax makes some drop-in lockers which do not require removal of the carrier. Might be worth a look.

Ebay- look for 8.8 rebuild video from "badshoe" that'll show you how to assemble/disassemble. It's really not that hard, you don't really need much for specialized tools.

Axle seal pusher
Dial type inch pound torque wrench
