the glow plug timer is shot and i have been told its
a very sensitive job ??? why is this so finicky and what can make it easier???

superdave is right, you may post the question here:
BTW, You call change/replace all parts which are related to the 6.9 ltr Diesel very easy. Exept the control switch, in that case you have to drain some coolant out of the system and...be SURE that the engine is cold and pressurefree when you do it. To do that just place a big, clean can under you radiator (drain fitting) and drain some coolant. Just enough to remove the switch...
After the work is done just put the drained water back into you radiator.
