Glow Plug Relay

I have a 1992 F250 4 x 4 with the 7.3 and after the glow plug timer light goes out I hear a click click from the relay. Do you think that it is the relay or the timer/sensor? It goes away after a minute or so. If you try and cycle the glow plugs twice it will not go on at all (glow plug light). Thanks for your help.

Connman,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.

What you are describing sounds like normal operation.

When you first turn the key ON, the Wait to Start light should come on for about 10 seconds.
When it goes out, start the engine.

If you leave the key ON without starting the engine, it will draw your batteries down rather fast, the glow plugs draw a lot of power.

When you turn the key ON, the glow plugs heat up.
Once they reach proper temp, the relay cycles so they do not overheat and burn up.
