I have a 93 F150 auto with the 5.0L motor and 80K miles. When I take off from a stop I hear a loud whining noise comming from the passanger side of the motor. Also I get a loud blower sound from the drivers side of motor. They get louder the faster I get. Then when the trani switches to second gear they both go away. Kinda like a granny gear but I have a 3.5 rear end. Doesnt seem to be causing any problems but I am only getting 14.5 miles per gallon on the hiway. Thanks for any ideas.
The tube from your smog pump to your "Y" pipe might be rusted through. That can cause a whining noise from the passanger side. Does it just make the noise in 1st gear, or does it make the same noise at high engine RPM when in any gear?
Thanks for the reply. The hose isnt rusted its a rubber hose going into a little coffee can size plastic jar thing. And yes its not just in 1st gear but at high rpm's. Could the smog pump be going out? Btw what does the smog pump do? Could it cause poor gas milage? About the blower motor sound I just replaced the fan clutch about a month ago. The ppl at Oreilly said its a super duty clutch. But whould that make it so loud? Thanks again!

I had that same problem with my 88 F-150. Fixed it by opening the passenger door & kicked the wife out!!!!
Sorry,
really couldn't help myself. I saw the thread title & that is all I could think about!! OK, no more joking form me, back to the subject at hand!
dude, the fan noise is the fan....if you got a "mega-duty" fan clutch,it spins the fan more then a stock one,so you hear a fan every time the motor revs up....dunno about the other noise if it only does it in first and no other gears i dunno makes mne worry bout your trans
