I have a 1997 F150 and recently there has been a sqeaking in the steering. Could it be the ball joints? I have heard that the ball joints are sealed units and can't be greased. Please contact me with what you think. Thanks
Yes, it is quite common for then to wear and start squeaking. The good news is that aftermarket ones have grease fittings to keep this from happening.
If the joints aren't worn enough to have play in them, I have put a small slit in the boot, put a plastic air toy fitting in the end of my grease gun and pumped grease in that way. This will eliminate the squeak. I have done this on my 88 Mustang LX 5.0. It has been like this for about 5 years now with no more troubles.

before you go replacing ball joints its often the pitman arm on those. Poke a little hole in the boot on the pitman arm and fill it with grease. Often times this will stop the squeeking.
