Hey guys, this is Sedrick . I need help again. I was checking and repacking the front wheel bearings for an upcoming 1300 mile trip when I found the ball joints to be loose. What do you guys think are the best ball joints to buy? Are Moog better than the OEM ball joints from the dealer? Does anyone have detailed info on how to change ball joints on a 1999 2wd super duty?
im in the same boat your in...i asked the question on another thread...it was called upgraded ball joints.. and someone recommended this one brand that I cant remember
Try McQuay Norris Extreme Series ball joints. They look like a good heavy duty replacement and are made in America. I think alot of Moogs aare made over seas now.
i just put a set of moogs on my bronco and f250. changing the ball joint itself isnt that difficult. youll just need to take it somewhere to have it aligned when youre done. you may need a press to get the new ones in though. so be prepared for that. if you want step by step instructions, someone on here will probably have them. but if not, check out a haynes manual at advance. they usually have step by step instructions for everything on the truck.
pharticus-what kind of roads are you driving on that you need 4 new ball joints at only 58k miles??
I just had my passenger side done upper and lower by a friend that has a shop for 450.00. I would have done it myself but i didn't have the nessesary tools to do it plus the time. Had a seal and regreasing done for extra but 450.00 was the price of the ball joints. I got the greasable Moogs on both sides.
I have no idea. I just bought the truck a couple weeks ago for a screamin' deal... but am dealing with the realities of finding such a "bargain".
All in all, though: $5,000 for a superduty with 58k ain't too shabby.
thats not a bad deal at all if its in decent shape. but 4 new ball joints at under 60k miles means its been through hell and back. i drive my 92 bronco and 97 f250 off road several days a week going to gas well locations and i just changed them a few months ago. all four on the bronco at 200k miles and the passenger side on the 97 at 190k miles.

I'm taking it to a friend who owns a shop for a second opinion. I'm hopeful that the first shop was just looking to score some additional work...
