Ball joints?

Are the ball joints replaceable on an 04 navigator, or do I have to buy the $100+ a-arms with the joints in them?

You'd have a definitive answer by checking to see if your local auto parts store sells just a ball joint without the control arm.

I have not had to do mine, yet. I'm pretty sure the uppers will require buying the A-arms and the lowers are just the ball joints. If it's like the Mark VIII the A-arms will include the bushings as they usually go out at about the same time.

Therein lies the problem. They show both but carry neither. The picture of the ball joint doesn't look "normal" and if they are mounted in aluminum arms...... Is there a way to get them pressed out without hogging them out so the new ones won't fit?

From what I can find out, only the lowers are separate from the arm. While the uppers are a permanent part of the upper A-Arm. Your parts store might be listing just the ball joint, but I'll bet it's a number for the lower ball joint.

My local AutoZone has the ball joint as just the part for my truck and for very little more they have the A arm with the bushings and the ball joint
You would be better off to get the A arm assembly as it has the bushings and ball joint, otherwize you will do more work trying to change just the ball joint.
I have found that AutoZone and Advance carry the same parts at about the same price. Do what's best for you.

You are right, the spec.s clearly say the parts fot a 2000 Navigator. I was only showing him that the parts are likely available either way from Autozone or similar stores.

Yeah.... That's what I bought. Upper A-arms with ball joints installed in them. $103.99 each.

Got bigger fish to fry though. I have it in the air now and I can't find anything wrong with any of the ball joints, but the big bolts that hold the lower control arms to the sub frame are sliding around in the hole like they're loose, but they aren't loose. I think whatever *** clown did the alignment for mom messed something up then claimed ball joints to cover his tracks.

Not a happy camper right now. Not only do I have $300 worth of parts I don't need but now I have to remove the entire front suspension to get at the real problem........ Not to mention the two brand new Pirelli Scorpions up front are trashed.

Sounds like lower control arm bushings. I just ordered all this for my Expy, from Rockauto, all Moog for just under $300 shipped, upper arms w/ joints greaseable, lower ball joints greasable and bushings, camber bolts, and I honestly forget the rest. Bushings for both sides, 2 pairs should be around $48 each or so depending on where you shop.
