If your block is original, I would bet that is the exact casting number that is on your block right now.

Yes it will work!

That is a 79 and up casting number. The only thing I know that is different about the newer blocks, is the very rear ( one on each side, right at the rear lip seal on the oil pan ) 2 oil pan bolt holes are 1/4" instead of 5/16". I am not sure when that change was ( maybe 87 - 88 or so ) made. It still doesn't matter though.

I have that same casting number block, it came out of a 79 E-250 van.

Well to answer your carb or EFI question, that depends on what kind of offroading you are refering to. Drag racing or 4x4ing? EFI will allow you to have constant fuel pressure to run the engine if you were to go rock crawling and were at an angle of 37 degrees or more. The carb would allow the fuel to vent out or the jets wouldn't have fuel on them. This is based off of the Holley carbs. Open up my user gallery to see what I have listed for my 460, I have 487 HP and 537 TQ without any power modifiers.

hey that is an awesome 460 you got there! Thanks for the info. I think im going to go with a .30 bore and fuel injection though. its mainly going to be an around town truck and some trails. What would i have to change from yours if i did efi other than the carb? any help is appreciated. thanks alot.

What kind of EFI are you thinking of using? If is the stock EFI system you wouldn't be able to use the Stealth intake. On the other hand if your using say a Holley Commander 950 TBI system then you would be able to use it. It allows for you to make changes to your engine and not have to swap out everything in the system just reprogram it.
