I guess you must mean the diesel motor since you posted in this forum............... There are claims in some of the recent threads about these engines going over a million miles without an overhaul........ Personally I believe you can get about half a million on average with proper maintenance.......... They certainly outlast the gasoline engines hands down.
International says that over 90% of these engines hit 250,000 miles without having the heads, oilpan or intake ever removed. We see a lot of 200-300k engines around now. But this engine is sensitive to abuse. So make certain you find one with good maint. records and a good operator history. I believe the PSD is good for more miles than the truck surrounding them and I would not hesitate to buy a high mile engine w/ a good history.
I ask a guy with a 1990 deisel how many miles he had on the truck and he said 425,000 and that the body would wear out before the motor would and that he had spent more money on trannys and front end work than he had on the motor. Well that sold me so I bought a 97 with 225,000 on it and I can tell you its the best investment on I ever made.
I would second the second! My truck has 236k and still going strong. As everyone has stated with proper maint, they are good for quite a few miles.

I know a person that has a 1990 Ford diesel and it has over 500k miles on it. He bought it new and got a turbo for it as soon as he bought it. Towes a 36' 5th wheel camper to Washington every year in the summer and to Florida every year in the winter from our state of Oklahoma. The only things ever replaced on it were the glow plugs and injectors.
Still has it and it is running strong.
