You'll be fine. If you want to really do it right run zoomies out straight up out your hood. That would be hella cool.

run the pipe long enough and it will be fine. I am running straights right now and it is quite loud.

you can't let the cold outside air come in contact with your valves cause it will mess them up! but if you are gonna run them all the way in the back you will be fine. mine stops where the bed meets the cab!

you do know there are prolly noise laws around where you are...just make sure it is half way legal and make sure you don't have to pass emissions

haha yea i know its loud! my buddy has em but they only run to the back of his cab. hes been too lazy to get more piping and finish it. how would it hurt your valves? would it put wear on his valves since hes got big piping and its so far up by his headers? thanks yall. cant wait to hear that beautiful sound comin from my engine! o by the way, are there 02 sensors in my cat that i would have to relocate to the new piping or do i just weld up some pipes and let er go? thanks

if the cold air were to get up to the valves it would cool them off so rapidly that they would warp and cause leaks...really awful sounding noise! lol so it won't hurt it.

normally the O2 sensor is before the cats...i have always seen them on a connecting pipe b/t the two pipes right where the 2 pipes meet.

You know, to be honest, on a mild engine I don't know why you'd even consider it...they don't sound good and won't aid in performance over a good free flowing system. You would have to have the pipes pretty short to worry about them sucking cold air into the valves, but with a lazy engine and super short pipes it could happen and then you have snafu Fishy described. Like I said though, with what you were talking about you should be fine. I still say build the hell out of your engine and run zoomies though if thats what you want

i dont know what yur talkin about. its loud as hell on a 302. anything bigger would be insane...but cool. i think yur underestimating the ole 302. and by the way, what would a 4.3 v6 sound straight piped...my buddies trying to decide if he should straight his chevy cheyenne 4x4. id imagine it would sound decent but nowhere close to a v8. basically, will it have a low growl or will it have a ricy sound? thanks yall.

sasnaker, my friend just put straight pipes with glasspacks and tips on his v6 1998 F150, and well to me it sounds to ricey. Makes a really high pitch rumble. Ive put glasspacks on v6s and on 4 bangers, none have ever sounded as bad as his. If i was him, id put some kind of turbo muffler (flowmaster, etc.) on the 4.3. I had a turbo muffler on my 2.0 ranger and it sounded mean as hell. My friends v6 sounds like ***** if u ask me.

Read back, I didn't say it would not be loud, I just said it wouldn't sound good. But thats my opinion...I think straight pipes sound like ricey crap on anything but a real serious big block with a healthy lope. As far as 302s go, naw, I don't underestimate them, they are good little motors. Admittantly, of my two truck motors since ones a 428 and ones a 514 my perspective of a healthy engine is a bit skewed. Its your truck, do what you want.

Ebronc........if your buddy has glasspacks then he's not running straight pipes......that means unmuffled.

Pro, true its not straight pipes. But there is very little difference and straight and running with glasspacks, considering the glasspacks are a straight through tube with fiberglass around the inside sides. I run glasspacks on everything just about, i love the sound of glasspacks but for some reason his f150 v6 sounds like crap with them.

Fishman, at least its a big block so you don't need to worry about sounding ricey.

Ebronc, you are right in that a well flowing glasspack (some of them don't, it depends on the louvers) is darn near as open as a straight pipe...I just wanted to clarify that so people reading this didn't get confused about what "straight pipes" were.

The "official" law enforcement officers here in Salt Lake County need to read up a little on this difference I run glass packs back about a quarter the length of the bed & they are dumped at that point. Im forever getting hassled by SL County for running "straight pipes". I tried explaining the difference to them but no matter they just want to be right, get thier money & besides who ever heard of a girl knowing anything about trucks?? LOL!

they could care less whether or not it is straight pipes....they are just concerned with noise levels. I have yet to be harrased thank goodness.

you want a real good sound!? Instead of getting exhaust pipe, go to your local junk yard and get 2 identical driveshafts. Use those as your pipes. You get a low rumbling that you can hear a mile way! And why run the out where the cab stops? Just get a semi pipe and run it up like stacks. It will look awesome and sound cool too.
