OK, if the drive shafts are close to the same thickness as exhaust pipe how will it sound different. Remember, when you hit a drive shaft there are no open holes in each end.
Also, before jumping into running straight piping you have to think about the diameter of the pipe. This is not a case where bigger is better. A 3 inch straight pipe on say a 351 that isn't making 300+hp is not a winning idea. You need a certain amount of back pressure. You also need to have pipe small enough that forces the exhaust to move at a rapid pace. If the pipe is to big it won't flow fast enough to pull out the air from the next stroke. To big the air slows down to much. Torque is lost along with HP.
.
i have seen quite a few home made exhausts and i have never seen a driveshaft converted mainly due to weight
i would recomend going to your local steel yard and geting some lighter pipe if thats your goal but why would you want a 4-5" exhaust they you will be looking like all the stupid imports and j-bodys wwith fart cans
straight pipes are nice but a nice flowing tuned system is SWEET and you will keep some bottom end torque
Drive shafts are made from different tempered steel than exhaust pipe. And if you say it cuts power your wrong. the back pressure you need is still maintained by the headers. The mustang i saw them on had the power to prove they work. And it sure wans't a 351.
I didnt make this up. But if you dont thik it will work then tell him something that will. I was just putting it out there for some creative person to use. If everny truck was the same how fun would that be? I guess you think parts all have only one use. I bet you used duct tape for stuff other than duct work. When something new and original comes along you automatically assume it wont work. Well, this time your wrong.
lol , no one said you made this up and it is a very interesting idea....very creative! but d/s's are expensive! if it were me i would sell them and get some money saved up to do it right! maybe it is just me but i thought the whole first page was full of useful, knowledgeable ideas...again that's prolly just me

ps...keep your pants on.....it's just the internet
fellas, fellas! lets all calm down. first of all, im not even sure this will work. or if i will try it. but it is a creative idea, which i like. if people didnt do this type of dumb sh#t then there wouldnt be any fun in building up trucks. maybe its cuz im a country boy, but i like to build my own sh#t. so you city ladies can continue going to the closest fast jimmys repair shop and leave that kid alone. not tryin to start trouble but kinda gets me fired up when people call fabrication ideas dumb. kinda defeats the purpose of it. think about it. would we even be doin straight pipes if one day someone didnt hack off a muffler or two. anywayz, lets all jus settle down

Snake....read Ryans sticky in this forum so you don't catch heat for expletitives. I know, I know, its a pain in the neck but just trying to help a new guy out. I've caught enough heat of my own to know.
Secondly, I can only infer that you are talking about fishy and me...which is pretty funny in and of itself. A quick look at my rigs can tell even a blind fellah I'm an old hand at serious fab work. Never lived in a city and never let anybody else work on my piles except for the exhaust guy (occasionally) and alignment guy (occasionally). Point is, I LIKE people to think out of the box, and I LIKE innovative fab ideas. Farbeit for me to call somebodies fab idea dumb, unless....well.......its DUMB!
Whats the big deal about this? Do it if you want, or don't. I could care less if you have driveshafts hanging off of your headers. Maybe you could run them through your hood like zoomies...that would be a hell of a thing.

i honestly have not lived anywhere with less than 25 acres of land (being the house i live at now.....when I get out of college and move to NC I have 200 acres waiting on me )
actually the Pro 105 tube bender and lincoln wire welder really help to keep me out of the exhaust shop (when i ain't running straight pipes ) and i do my own alignment since it is very simple with the Dana 60 frontend. Although I am about to rebuild my motor and will have to use a mchine shop, it will be the first time i will have to take it somewhere .
