Windshield Question

I have an 86 ford bronco. How difficult is it to replace the windshield if I get a replacement from the junkyard? Anyone done this before, it dosn't seem too difficult...any tricks would help!

Although I can (and have) replace a variety of windshields, I very much do not like to replace F150 windshields. I won't even replace my own. Contrast this to my project Mustang. I must have had the windshield in +out for various reasons about 8 times now and think nothing of it. My reasons are, 1-the glass is just too big. You need two people to handle it and even a 2wd truck sits up so high somebody will about have to sit on the hood.
2. I have the damnedest time trying to remove the lower windshield molding without screwing it up. It can be done, I know, but somehow I can't seem to remove one without bending it. Once bent, it'll have a kink in it from then.
3. I really just don't like replacing "glue in" windshields anyway.
My local junkyard will sell me a decent used windshield for $65. A new one for a $120. For $150 the local bargain glass guys will come and replace the thing in the parking lot while I'm at work. Worth the extra money to me and there is no substitute for brand new glass. One drawback is that there seems to be no "80-91" windshields anymore, only 92-96. The only difference is the black paint around the edge. Use a 92+in a 91 back and the paint will mostly obscure the VIN plate on the dash. Annoying.
You might ask at the yard if they know someone who replaces glass "on the side". There's a guy around here who will come to you after work and do it. I believe he charges about $35. I'm sure he's not the only one. Don't discount the junkyard employees either. The same guy who cuts your glass out is likely well able to reinstall it (if you can catch his ear when the boss isn't looking).

WOW why do it your self? Just had mine done in the lot at work and only cost me 136. Thats a deal to me considering all the crap I would of gone through to do it myself. Besides....I got a warranty with mine.

windshield

All very good points! I have not even had time to look into cost yet. Christmas is coming up, maybe Santa will drop one under the tree along with someone to install. The bummer part of this whole situation is, is that I broke it out of anger and frustration..stupid me! That'll teach me!

NOTE TO SELF: Never move the passenger seat forward under the influence of anger!

Thanks guys...I'll do some checking!
