I have never replaced a windshield. this would be for a 1987 ranger. How difficult of a job is this? Do I need any special tools? I can get a windshield from a guy I work with, but I have to take it out myself. How hard is that? does this work have to be done in a heated garage,or at a certain temperature? will I need any seals or any new parts? Sorry if these seem like simple questions, just never done this kind of work before, wondering if I should tackle it or not...thanks, Ben
If you haven't done this before, have a professional do it. As our colleague stated, rubber gasketed windshields are easier, but can still have problems. Your's needs to be set in urethane and the trim replaced. Shop around the glass services in your area. You'll undoubtedly find differences in prices from one to another. There are decent prices if you look. When I needed a winshhield for my '76 Maverick 4 door after I got it from Texas, I shopped and got a new one installed (I supplied the rubber gasket) for $165 which included removal of the broken one. It is possible not to get ripped on a windshield if you check around.
