Speedometer change w/ 38's
I fully agree with your " if you can't afford a gear change, you can't afford a lift" motto..... if some people knew how much more fun their trucks would be to drive with proper gearsets, they would be done when they were torn apart the first time.

1. get on your cell phone's and pace his truck in my stock truck.
2. at 10mph intervals, I'd call out and see how many mph diff b/t mine and his.
3. He noted the difference!
Done... until he gets his TrueSpeed installed.

most guys with deisels feel they don't need the swap, yet the deisel needs the proper gear ratio also. yes, deisels may not feel it as bad as a gasser does, but never the less, a deisel without proper gears is still running the engine harder (read: out of factory specs) and losing the power to the wheels too.
trust me guys, you *need* to swap your gears for a proper set when you put larger tires on your rig!
I ran my truck with a chip, turbo, and some other goodies for awhile with 35" tires..........and while it was fast and had a lot of power you could still tell that the bigger tires were hurting the performance of it somewhat. Personally, I wouldn't go over 35" tires on the PSD with the stock gears.
When I go to 38" PJs I'll regear........still not sure if I'll do 4.56s or 4.88s
.
Hey man that's because I am a realist....and still a gas guy at heart! Still own three other trucks (all gasoline) and a gang of 60's and early 70's cars, and they are all geared right and fun to drive!
have a great day man,
Tim
