4WD fix on 92 Explorer
O.K. ... 92 Explorer ; manual lock hubs...Electronic interior engagment (push button on dash)....4WD worked during late Oct. snow, then failed after....I read about the "Electric Shift Motor" cures on several web sites...( uninstall - clean connections - re-install ). I have very slight mechanical skills...So, I crawl under the truck, find the transfer case, then the "rear" of the transfer case....electric motor ma-jigggy thing is fairly easy to see/recognize....but looks too invoved for me to deal with un-installing....I flick the wire-cluster-fuse thingies a couple of times with my fingers...then start to firmly tap the exterior of the shift motor with a mallet-type hammer....Use Common Sense , don't whack the crap out of it.....don't bend or strip any metal.....So, 4 or 5 taps later, I crawl from underneath, start Explorer, push 4WD button....and BINGO !!!! 4WD light is lit ; 4WD is engaged and I'm tearing up Tahoe's snowy/icy roads again.......FOR FREE $$$$$.....I highly reccomend trying this cure early in your "4WD failure" journey....Good Luck....Pete..
