Transfer case won't engage

Transfer case won't engage

I've got a '92 bronc with push button 4wd.
when I push to engage 4wd I can here the electrical clicking noise like it's trying to engage, but it doesn't. (The noise coming from the passenger side wall sounds like something is engaging but the transfer case doesn't respond, then it disengages- i guess that's the ECU module or something)
is there a typical component on the transfer case I need to look at/replace at this point?

most common is jammed transfer case motor due to rust inside.

take a hammer and tapped on transfer case motor and repaet procedure to see if your 4x4 is working.

FYI.... transfer case motor looks like a windshield wiper motor and it is mounted on transfer case.

Thanks, I'll try that. Kinda like when a starter does the same thing.
Any idea what this part goes for at the parts store?

I doubt you can get it in parts store.

dealership want 170 bucks for it.

you can try ebay, sometimes you'll get lucky.

If you are inclined, it is not to tough to remove and repair the t-case shift motor yourself. Took me a couple hours. Pay careful attention to how it comes apart. Check out this link for the tech info you will need. Good Luck.
