Do you have a wiring harness on the back of the truck for a trailer? You might want to check that out for loose connections before spending the money on a switch. Basically that's the only spot where the wires are exposed to the elements. I had a very similar problem and that took care of it.

I don't know if this is your problem or not,but I just had a VERY similar problem,and it ended up being a frayed wire in the steering column. I got one of the chilton books and finally figured out how to get to the wire(it's located on left side of column where turn/wiper control attaches), You have to remove the ignition and trim around column(all clearly shown in chilton manual)(also,don't forget to disconnect battery) I fixed this problem the 1st time by just wrapping tape around frayed wire,and the problem returned. So this last time I added a section of wire to it.(seems that may be the problem here.TO SHORT OF A WIRE) Anyway,it's something for you to try,it fixxed my problem! Keith
