OK, here's what's happening my right blink has been acting up lately, when I go to engage it sometimes it works and other times it doesn't, when it doesn't work I can hear the rely clicking really fast does this mean the really is going, or to I have a bad gorund somewhere, or something else? anyone have any ideas
I have seen a few of them on ebay, both new and used. But, I would check all the bulbs and the flasher first before I replace the multifunction switch. I also have a Ford Service DVD (repair manual) if you need screen shots on where to find and how to remove anything.
AT LAST!! I'm having this problem with both blinkers (though it originally started with the right). After checking all of the bulbs and connections, I am still having this same problem. My wipers will even click on just for the heck of it if I use the blinkers too much. At least I know I'm not the only one. I concidering taking to a shop to get this fixed, but was afraid it was an electrical problem and would cost major $$ to fix. But after having read this and the other links posted I think I can do this one on my own, even though I'm not very mechanically experienced.
If anyone can post a link to a diagram or screenshot I would be grateful.
1997 f150. I think so. I was looking for a diagram for the steering column specifically for the multifunction switch. With the problem being both blinkers, I'm pretty confident that this is the problem.
Just out of curiousity, are you using one of the cd manuals that I see offered on eBay or is the on you use factory Ford?
B. Grimm,
I can't seem to figure out how to put images from my computer into the body of my replies. I will put all the screenshots that I have in a gallery. I am posting just the removal/replacement shots for the MFSwitch. I also have access to a trouble shooting chart but it is quite lengthy as far as capturing it all with screenshots. I can email it to you in a few days if you'd like.
I have a Genuine Ford service information DVD, (not cd, but only works on computers) that covers all ford vehicles from 97 to 2002 and some tsb's all the way back to 94. I got a good price on it, about $40 from ebay, most go for $100 or more. It is one of the most useful tools I have ever bought. I just wish there was one that covered all the year models of the Bronco (I have an '81 with parts from every year just about to '96 LOL)
well, I did a little checking today before I left work, it seems that when it works fine both front and rear blinks work fine, but when I get the problem only the rear blinker works, so my question is could this be a sign that the multifunction switch is going or is something messed up with my front right blinker?
That's exactly what mine did, which is why I first changed the front bulb. I was quite surprised when it didn't fix the problem. Of course, I then changed the rear bulb. Obviously, that didn't work either. Switch fixed it. It also fixed some other minor problems like having to push 5 times to get the washer to spray and the intermittent wipers having very odd intervals between wipes.
That is exactly what I was looking for. This weekend I'm going to take the switch out to see if I need to simply clean it before I go spending $70+ for a new one.
Thanks also for the info on the disk. I had thought about buying one of those cd's off of ebay (usually $10), but was unsure of the quality of the product. I was hoping it would be as good as the one you use. But I guess I'll wait and try to find the really thing.
The Haynes manual just doesn't cut it for some things.
