Auto Trans
As for big rigs using autos, it is so that they don't have to take the time to teach drivers how to shift. There really aren't that many people out there that learn how to drive a manual transmission. Then shifting a truck tranny can be tricky, I'm not good at double clutching which is why I don't use it. But I like the idea of the auto shift. What I would really like to see is a constant variable transmission that doesn't shift, which Ford is suppose to be working on. John Deere tractors came out with one this last year. As to the Allison autos, I don't really know if they are good or bad, haven't drove one or been around one. But it just hit me, if they are so good why is GM teaming up with Ford to build a six speed auto when they just came out with the allison five speed. I think in 10 years you probably won't be able to get a true manual transmission in a car or pick-up, if you can they'll probably be rare. Just my thoughts and opinions.
