I just installed the DYI rattler remote start system on my brothers car. Installation was a cinch. As long as your confortable working on wireing then there is no need for a "proffessional" installation.

The instructions that came with it were superb, and their website gives you the wiring diagram for your paticular vehicle. It was a MUCH eaiser install than my Crime Guard alarm system.

I WOULDN"T DO IT

Hey guys,

Ok for one, I was a pro car audio instaler for 10 years- finally gave it up b/c if f*ed up my back.

I wouldn't recommend chain stores doing any major installs or basic installs if you ask me.

For 1, they hire new installers who maybe certified but have no hands on experience.

Anyone can read the MECP (Installers manual for car audio) book and take the test to get ceritfied, but to have hands on training on alot of different kind of cars- no way.

Go to a real car audio shop. You may pay a little more, but the installer will be alot cleaner and you shouldn't have an issue with any tech problems that may arise.

The good shops guarantee the install for life and the alarms have a factory warraty time- Some models made by DEI-Viper/Python etc have lifetime on the alarms.

As for putting the remote under the chin, your body naturally has electric currents, and by putting the remote under your chin, it makes your body act like an antenna.

I got a car and driver remote keyless/starter for christmas from target. I only really wanted the keyless entry, but I'll take teh remote start. I'm waiting on a T-connector for my wiring harness that probably will be on backorder untill february. Oh well.

As far as mad cow disease goes, think about all the farmers and ranchers who have been literally raped by one cow. Like was said, beef prices went for *manure*, but cash grain prices opened 15 cents lower the next day. If you are sitting on 50k bushels of corn, think about how much money that can cost a guy. That's $7500 that guy may not have to put fuel in his tractors next spring.

Makes me want to grill and eat a steak on national television.

A friend of mine had a very expensive system installed at Best Buy. The systm calls his cell phone if someone is breaking into his truck. It cost him about $600.00 after all the sensors, and the audible noise if you open the door.

His problem was that the sensors kept corroding (sp) and the system would go off on its own.

My wife and I had a factory FORD system put in her 2001 SuperCrew, and it works great !!!!!

As far as the putting the remot under your chin, it does work !!

At least it did on the Avital system that was on the Dodge that I just traded off.

I installed a "Bulldog Security" brand remote starter on my 2000
F150.It works great. You must have an extra key to make it work.
Also must have a "Bypass Kit"/Relay, for the Security system.
This is not for "anyone" to do.I have 15 years experience in TV repair and I am mechanically inclined. The Bulldog Security website and the instructions that came with the system were excellent. The cost for the system was around $80.00 total.

I totally agree with Mike (alpine7572)...Stay away from short-Circuit City and the other big market installers like Tweeters or Best Buy. They don't have to worry about whether or not you will come back for repeat business because they will just get the next poor sucker that comes along.

I had a Viper 550 ESP system with remote start installed on my POS '00 GMC Jimmy. It was installed at the local short-Circuit City store.

When it was installed, the tech said he had to download the "code" to disable the factory alarm, so I might experience some instances where the factory alarm will go off when I disarm the Viper alarm; okay...I can live with that for a short time; never heard from the SOB...and when I went back to see him about it, he didn't work there anymore...and the "senior" installer said he didn't know how to disable the factory alarm which meant I was screwed...

When I had the system uninstalled by a local tinting/audio shop I discovered through a friend, the tech who does the alarm installs, found that instead of soldering the Viper systems wires to the trucks wiring to splice them, the short-Circuit City installer stripped the insulation back and then taped the wires together using electrical tape .

My advice is to ask as many people that you can find as where their alarm/remote/keyless entry system was installed. Check around with some of the local kids in your area for where they take their cars to have their alarm/remote/keyless entry systems installed. The place I go to now is owned by three young guys who rely on word-of-mouth referrals/repeat customers and they are so busy I have to wait for over a week to have the alarm installed in my truck. Ask if they are:

1 - Satisfied with the install?
2 - Are they having problems (like the factory alarm going off when they disarm their system, etc.)?
3 - How much did they pay for the installation as some installers will charge more if you don't buy the system from them.

Just my $.50 worth...

He's NOT crazy, this really works. I don't know how or why, but I put my remote under my chin and open my mouth and press the button and it doubles the distance from which the remote works. (yes you look silly but it's so cool to show people how it works) This works on the TV remote, my remote control lantern and on the truck remote access. I know, there are those of you who are laughing right now, but try it! Next time your batteries are low on the TV remote, just try it!

Yes, it works...but only if you have metal fillings from years of eating lots of candy.

For all of you 'good kids' who didn't have cavities...live with the short range.

I don't think that's it because I only have one metal filling.
