Remote start from Circuit City

Has anyone had a remote starting system installed by Circuit City or Best Buy? If so, have you had any compatibility or operational problems?

I wouldn't let any chain store hack up my electrical system. Sorry, but I think very low of chains like these that offer 'professional' installation but have wages and benefit packages that make south east asia look like blue collar's paradise.

Best is to do it yourself. Next thing would be a friend who is a mechanic. If you don't have that, go to a local store that has a good reputation with people that you know. If you don't have that, have it installed at your FORD dealer.

A remote starter is a fun gizmo, but it is a lot more than a radio or a light in your camper shell! If something goes wrong with the installation or how it holds up over time, you can also have a truck that doesn't start or that doesn't stop to start!

Just my two cents. Call me a pessimist. If it were my truck, I'd start it myself.

George

Edit: I realize this is a 2001. If you still have warranty, what are you going to tell the dealer if the truck has trouble resulting from a bad install?

Cool Circiut City

I to am from NC, and wish I had keyless entry added to my trucks options.Tuesday Circiut City in Rocky Mount will be installing it.They are warranting the wiring for the life of the vehicle and the unit for one year.I have talked to a lot of people who have had this done and never had any problems. With you living in the Raliegh area I cannot even imagine the amount of remote installs they have done and am certian you should be ok.

What brand of system are you getting? Remote starter too or just locks?

Keyless entry from circuit city

It is a alpine keyless entry with two remotes. No it does not have remote start or a alarm.they do have systems with those but I'm only interested in keyless entry and trying to hold the cost down. The price of the unit is 75.00 and they are charging 65.00 to install. That's 135.00 plus tax.I'll let you know how I like it after the install.

The Works

I just installed a system with all the options. I would not recommend this to beginners. I did a lot of reading. I had to buy the alarm, the PAT's bypass, extra relays and a Service manual on DVD for my 2003 Screw. Ok I really could have gotten by without the DVD but I wanted to know everything I could about the Wiring harnesses I was splicing into. The alarm is a 2 way unit. It's nice to know whats what on your truck while your indoors. The range on this unit is over rated. I get probably 200 feet or so before I'm out of range. It took me quite a few hours to install it. I'd say 2 days. It was my first. I over did it on the options. The alarm has 7 channels. I even wired the tailgate to lock. Running board lights when I unlock the truck. I'm even looking to put in area lighting around the doors. This is a very nice feature on the Expeditions. Light's the way to the truck at night. The lights are located in the outside mirrors pointing toward the ground! Ok I'm rambling and it's 1 am. Oh and in case you are wondering the remote start is great! Cools it when it's hot out for me and warms it when it's cold. Love that electronic climate control!

Nite all

Hold the remote tightly against the side of your jaw when you press the button. It will increase the range at least by twice.

He's NOT crazy, this really works. I don't know how or why, but I put my remote under my chin and open my mouth and press the button and it doubles the distance from which the remote works. (yes you look silly but it's so cool to show people how it works) This works on the TV remote, my remote control lantern and on the truck remote access. I know, there are those of you who are laughing right now, but try it! Next time your batteries are low on the TV remote, just try it!

I was camping at a 4 wheeling place and I was talking with someone at the next camp over, trying to turn on my remote control lantern. It wouldn't work and this guy said, lemme see that thing, and he did that trick and turned the lantern on. So I tried it over and over just pointing it at the light but it wouldn't work until I did it his way of putting it under my chin and opening my mouth and then it turned on. So then I started trying it from farther and farther away and it kept on working as long as I did it that way. I can't explain why it works, but it sure does!

no full moon or wouldn't have needed the lantern. As far as the mad cow disease goes, that's the best thing thing that could have happened for the US consumer. The price of beef was through the roof because of the Adkins diet, now you can get real bargains on beef! And for crying out loud, it was ONE cow. ONE measly dairy cow! I'll take my chances and have mine medium rare.
