Question remote start or WHAT?

I pushed the unlock button on my remote several times in order to make sure the passanger side was unlocked. To my amazement, the truck started. I tried to duplicate that result with no success. I looked in the manual index for "remote start." There is no such subject. I tried it again: pushing the lock botton to make sure it was locked, then the unlock botton several times. The truck started. I pushed the lock button a couple times and the truck turned off. I have tried it again with no result.

Somebody please Help! It was just after I had a new bazooka tube and Ipod interface, speakers and amp installed. I was at circuit city when it happened. I don't know it they triggered it from inside or WHAT. The guys at the auto shop thought I must have a factory or aftermarket system.

I am very confused!

Well I just tried it on my truck, but nothing happened as I suspected. The procedure for starting is much too complicated to be the result of a short. I would say there has to be a system in place that’s causing this. Did you buy the truck used? I would guess it’s a ford remote start system.

It would be my guess that you have the ford remote start system installed by the previous owner, I think it’d be unlikely for a different brand to respond to your remote, but not impossible, more likely the ford system, which probably uses very similar frequencies and coding, is responding. Pushing the one button many times may mimic the signal of the start button on its remote, which would be hard to get right every time and is probably why it’s not responding uniformly. I’d take it to the dealer and tell them you think you have the remote start and ask them to check for it. Unfortunately I don’t know much about these systems so I can’t tell you how to check for it.

Why not just ask the person who previously owned the truck?

Or even just ask the dealer how they operate and try that.

I figured out how to work it consistently. If I push the lock button repeatedly, it will crank. While running and no key in the ignition, I press the lock button again twice to shut in off.

I don't know if that is part of the larait package or if it is after market. I works with the regular key bob, three buttons "lock", "unlock" and "panic."

Nope, not part of the lariat package. I'm assuming you bought it from a dealer, which is why you can't ask the previous owner.

Yes I did buy it from the dealer. Thanks for the comments and the interest. I know I made a big deal out of it. But, I was shocked!

Funny thing is I can shut it down with the factory key bob too; however, the stereo system keeps right on playing. The bazooka tube and its 100 watt amp plus the 200 watt amp for the other speakers would, I assume, kill the battery. I say assume because I also believe the stereo will time out. I just need not use the off function of the remote start.

It should have a remote start warning sticker under the hood.

Cool

It sounds like it is an aftermarket remotestart. This is a very common senerio, to start the truck push the lock button twice. This is done when the owner is very cheap and does not want to spend an extra $50 to have it done the right way. There are many downfalls with doing this way like the range when using the factory keyfob.

Maybe I should take it back to the dealer and tell them it's too cheap for me! I wanted the more expensive remote start.
