I rarely replace the shocks. Unless they are leaking or rusted out or the car or truck is bouncing. When I do have to replace them, I get the cheap ones on rockauto.
I use the GasAjust on all my older cars. Does a nice job firming up the marshmallow feel. Not cheap, but not high end either. Ive used them on trucks, and I do like them, but dont seem to bring as much to the table as on a old car. I just went with Amazon specials on my truck and they worked fine.
To tell the truth I had nothing to go by as I never drove my truck till I rebuilt everything on the suspension and I used polyurethane up front for pivots and radius arms.
The rear factory rubber was still good so I left them be just new shocks on all 4 corners.
I think the truck rides pretty good for being an old truck and have put many a mile on her.

I tried to use the Gabriel 77461 shocks with helper springs in the rear but they didn't fit. They were too long even after jacking up the rear axle and letting it hang unsprung. So, I used the standard Monroes instead. They're hopefully made in Mexico instead of China.
My truck runs very smooth, and no bounce, the previous owner said it needed new shocks. They felt good to me,
but he had put 100K on the truck, so I figured he'd know. They look original, but I'll leave well enough alone for
that price. I always liked using lifetime warranty shocks, but I am afraid to price them. lol
The truck rides better than my CRv, but I put 8 ply tires on it due to our rocky terrain. Going to upgrade the
truck to 10 ply when the 6 ply tires on it wear out.
I haven't kept up with shock prices. I bought lifetime shocks from Les Schwab tire store about 30 years ago. Everytime I get a new set of tires I also get a full set of shocks and they install them for me. I feel sorry for those who don't live in Schwab Country. They don't do free beef anymore though. That's the best time to get new shocks. With new tires. Extends the wear of the tires.
