Making progress

Over winter my wife purchased a new Jeep which is electronic everything! You don't actually drive anymore, you just steer the dang thing....
This created in me a deep longing for a simple truck so I've been busy in the shop after a decade and a half of laziness. The 48 F1 has been waiting for a fresh engine.
I installed the rotating assembly last week and started digging thru the piles of pieces to put the Merc flathead back together. Complete gasket set should arrive today.

In other news, I had to make a trip back east for a grandson's graduation and got to see a bunch of old friends and met a new one. Bigwin56f100 let me stop and bug him one afternoon and I had the pleasure of meeting his family and seeing his projects. That was one of many highlights of my road trip!! If any of you ever venture out to nw Montana, you are always welcome to stop by.

Over the years (27 with FTE) I've been able to meet quite a few guys who post here regularly and each one has been a pleasure to get to know. I'm too far away to make truckstock, but those meets are significant for those who can. In light of the recent scammer who popped up - THANK YOU to the mods who keep the group legit. There are a lot of amazing people in this forum. Thanks for letting me play along!
Tim

Just curious, how far is too far for you attend a Truckstock meet? Quite some years ago you bought a set of 20" snap ring wheels from me here in SE Wisconsin.

The reasons n I'm asking is I've been itching to have another meet here for the guys, and gals, that live too far west to travel to PA or KY. I had a couple of small meets here and had a few people from MN and , I think iowa attend. I really wanted to organize something this year but my wife's mother moved in with us and is making life difficult for us and we just see being able work something out with her being around. It seems like she might not be living with us much longer, it's just not working out but that's another story. What is like to find out is if there would be enough interest to attend a meet in the upper Midwest.

If you put one together, I'll try to make it.
25 years ago I drove the 48 F1 to ne Ohio on what became an epic road trip. I met a lot of flathead guys on that run - Garrigan, Marlett, Arrowsmith, Steyh, Bentley, Self and Soppeland. Lost a waterpump in Illinois, shipped new one overnight from Sac Vintage and changed it in the motel parking lot. Lost electric wipers and finished trip using Rain-X. Picked up a new bendix spring for the starter at Snyder's Antique Auto in New Springfield Oh.
Trip to Lethbridge CAN where I met Bill Boomer at a swap meet. I lost the generator bearings on the way home.
Different trip to Boise, ID was blissfully uneventful.
Later trips included FTE visits to you, Stu and Wayne. Ahh, memories!

Those wheels I bought from you are powder coated, mounted with 8.25x20s and are on my 50 F4. I need to get that one running also. More projects than time....
