6.7 ticking solved

I dealt with the annoying ticking for 9 years. Like many others with the issue, its loudest at the passenger’s side wheel well.

As silly as it seems, I tried switching from the cheap Walmart blue-jug DEF to the fancy Platinum DEF. The ticking, surprisingly, was better. I towed for a couple of thousand miles, and with a low DEF tank, added more platinum.

After a couple of trips, the noise is completely gone. It sounds so good at idle now. I didn’t expect a noisy DEF injector due to cheap DEF to be the issue, but it was.

I hope this helps others.

It would be interesting to see what the differences would be in a real-world scientific test. DEF is just urea, a higher-than-normal grade fertilizer. maybe a few additives to accomplish I'm not sure what, but it's just going into the exhaust so does it really matter.

Maybe it matters I don't know, but I'd like to because I have doubts.

Search instead for what is the difference between blue def platinum and regulaar def
AI Overview
The primary difference is that BlueDEF Platinum contains a proprietary additive package designed to prevent urea crystallization in your Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, whereas regular DEF relies solely on the standard mixture of 32.5% high-purity urea and 67.5% deionized water.

Here is how the two fluids compare:
Key Differences
Regular DEF: Strictly adheres to the standard ISO 22241 chemical formula required by all diesel engine manufacturers. It performs the core function of reducing
emissions perfectly well, but it can still form crystalline urea deposits in your exhaust system over time

Maybe, I've been getting bulk DEF delivered to my operation for some time. I don't know what brand it is it's just DEF, I'm sure at the price it's not a boutique quality product. I run it in my farm equipment, trucks and pickups, and I have never had a DEF system problem that could be contributed to the quality of the DEF.

I think there could be a quality difference in the higher priced DEF, maybe. but I don't think it makes any difference.
